These links and quotes are provided because in the last week they’ve amused, inspired, frustrated or confuddled me. I try not to offer too much comment on them, but sometimes I have a little rant to demonstrate a little of what emotion they’ve raised up in me. It would be fabulous if any of these offerings also moved you in anyway. If they do, let me know in the comments here or let the authors know on their pages!

Christian Peoples Alliance proposes family travel discounts

“The Christian Peoples Alliance (CPA) has revealed it will introduce discounted family Oyster cards if it is successful in May. The party, which will stand in the London Assembly election on May 3, said it would offer 25% Oyster discounts for all families that receive Child Benefit.”

I’m not so keen on this campaign promise from the CPA. I struggle to see how it is a good thing to basically incentivise marriage. The sooner we remove the link between money and how people live their lives the better.

Church of England should ‘rejoice’ over gay marriage, Bishops say from the Telegraph.

“The group, including members of the General Synod, the Church of England’s governing body, dismissed ‘mistaken’ impressions that church leaders were “universally opposed to an extension of civil marriage”….They wrote: “Recent statements by church leaders past and present may have given the mistaken impression that the Church is universally opposed to the extension of civil marriage to same-sex couples. We believe that does not adequately reflect the range of opinion which exists within the Church of England…. We believe that the Church of England has nothing to fear from the introduction of civil marriage for same-sex couples. It will be for the churches to then decide how they respond pastorally to such a change in the law.””

Whoop – finally. Thank you kindly.

Do you worship the work? Daily Devotionals by Oswald Chambers

We have no right to decide where we should be placed, or to have preconceived ideas as to what God is preparing us to do. God engineers everything; and wherever He places us, our one supreme goal should be to pour out our lives in wholehearted devotion to Him in that particular work. “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might . . .” (Ecclesiastes 9:10).

Tweets of the week:

@GreenPastures (Housing the Homeless): Church, if our #Worship consists of only singing songs & playing music we have missed God’s heart – #LovethePoor Micah 6:8

@Alan_Scott (Alan Scott): A God answers our prayers for broken humanity with the words ‘so send I you.’

@Nembow (Natalie Bowers): Don’t you hate it when you write a flash you’re really pleased with then realise you’ve stolen the plot from an M. Night Shyamalan film?
